About the Artist
Mouminatou is a Senegalese American visual artist, Womanist and Africanist, exploring rememory, greif, faith and ecoLove in her works. With painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and installation, she pulls from experience and collected stories to form her creative visual world, and is deeply motivated to respond colorfully to the communities and natural environments she belongs to. She layers textural scenes to blend the imaginary with the material and pulls from the roundness, warmth and color of her childhood world. Informed by her curatorial scholarship, Thiaw regards creative exploration and art literacy as central to critical thinking about representations of race, class, identity, family and human connection with the earth.
